Bitcoin UTXO Metric Signals Market Capitulation and Bottoming Phase

2 reports · First detected 2026-06-28 · Last active 2026-06-28

Unspent transaction outputs, or UTXOs, record the acquisition cost of Bitcoin, making it possible to determine whether traders realize a profit or accept a loss when coins are transferred. A sharp decline in the ratio of UTXOs spent in profit to those spent at a loss indicates that more holders are selling at a loss. Such capitulation has often coincided with bear-market bottoms, making the ratio an important on-chain indicator for long-term investors assessing when to build positions.

On June 27, 2026, CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost said the ratio had fallen to its lowest level of the current bear market and triggered a capitulation signal for the first time since the correction began. It last approached similar lows in mid-2023, when Bitcoin traded at about $26,000. Swissblock cautioned that the data only confirms the market has entered a bottoming phase and does not mean the ultimate low has already been reached.
