Circle CEO Outlines Convergence of AI Agents and the Blockchain Economy
As artificial intelligence advances rapidly, autonomous AI agents face a technical bottleneck in payment settlement because traditional banking systems struggle to support frequent transactions worth less than one cent. The on-chain economy promoted by stablecoin issuer Circle is emerging as critical infrastructure for addressing the problem. This convergence could enable autonomous machine-to-machine value exchange and define future decentralized business models, making it a significant development for global fintech.
Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire published a personal paper titled “The Agentic Economy” in July 2026, arguing that AI agents and on-chain finance are two sides of the same coin. He said the future machine economy would rely heavily on USDC, the dollar-pegged stablecoin, for settlement. Combined with Circle’s AI wallet and micropayment product lines, it would support high-frequency nanopayments as small as one-millionth of a cent and enable contracts to execute automatically without human intervention.
