Manus Launches Desktop App With ‘My Computer’ Local-Control Feature

Manus, Meta's AI agent platform, has primarily operated in the cloud, planning and executing multistep tasks on users' behalf. Its expansion to macOS and Windows brings the AI agent from a remote service onto personal computers, where it can work directly with local files and develop software. The shift also makes data access and operating permissions critical security considerations.

Manus recently formally launched its desktop application. Its core My Computer feature can control local systems to organize files, read and write data, and develop apps. In one demonstration, the agent took about 20 minutes to complete an application. The platform says every command requires user authorization before execution, reducing the risk of computers being operated without consent.
