Airwallex Commits $43 Million to Expand in UAE
Founded in Melbourne in 2015 and co-headquartered in Singapore and San Francisco, Airwallex provides businesses with multi-currency accounts, cross-border payments and spend-management tools. It established a Middle East presence in 2024 as UAE companies increasingly expanded overseas and outgrew legacy, single-currency systems. The country’s e-commerce market is forecast to reach $21 billion by 2031, making it an important base for Airwallex’s AI-enabled autonomous finance strategy.
Airwallex said on Aug. 25, 2026, that it would invest $43 million, or AED158 million, in the UAE over five years. The commitment will fund an expanded Dubai office, senior local hires and new financial and agentic products. The company has received in-principle approval from the Central Bank of the UAE for Stored Value Facilities and Retail Payment Services Category II licences and is seeking full approval to launch services under them later in 2026.
