Crypto Governance Platform Tally to Shut Down as Regulatory Easing Erodes Demand for Decentralization
Since its founding in 2019, Tally has provided onchain proposal, voting and delegation tools to more than 500 decentralized autonomous organizations, including Uniswap, Arbitrum and ENS. DAOs allow tokenholders to make decisions collectively and were once viewed by crypto projects as an important structure for distributing control and reducing risks under U.S. securities law. Tally's exit therefore highlights the commercial challenges facing governance infrastructure.
Tally announced on March 17, 2026, that it would shut down, wind up operations from the end of March and cancel its planned ICO. CEO Dennison Bertram said the shift toward looser U.S. regulation had reduced pressure to adopt decentralized governance. Although the platform served more than 1 million users, processed over $1 billion in funds and safeguarded about $80 billion in assets at its peak, it failed to establish a sustainable market.
