AMD to Acquire AI Memory Optimizer MEXT as Shares Hit Record High
The continued expansion of AI models, data analytics and high-performance computing has made DRAM capacity and cost a data-center bottleneck. Founded in 2023, MEXT develops Predictive Memory software that uses AI to forecast data-access needs, allowing lower-cost flash memory to perform more like DRAM. AMD aims to strengthen its EPYC and Instinct platforms and reduce customers’ total cost of ownership through the acquisition.
AMD announced its acquisition of MEXT on June 15, 2026, without disclosing the purchase price. MEXT says its software can expand available memory capacity by two to four times and reduce infrastructure costs by 50%. The deal announcement, coupled with Citi raising its AMD price target to $575, sent the shares up nearly 7% to a record closing high of $547.26, leaving the company’s market value close to $900 billion.
