Diraq to Deploy 8-Qubit Silicon Quantum Computer at Equinix
Australia-based Diraq is developing quantum computers based on silicon spin qubits, a technology designed to draw on established semiconductor manufacturing methods as systems scale. Its partnership with data-center operator Equinix is significant because it shifts the focus beyond qubit counts to practical deployment, testing whether quantum hardware can operate in a conventional commercial facility alongside standard computing infrastructure rather than remaining confined to a specialist laboratory.
Diraq plans to install an eight-qubit silicon spin quantum computer at an Equinix data center in Sydney, with installation scheduled for completion in October. The full system will consume less than 20 kilowatts and is designed to run alongside conventional servers. The companies will test network connectivity and remote monitoring, as well as integration with CPUs, GPUs, cloud services and artificial-intelligence computing environments.
