Google’s Gemini Nears 1 Billion Monthly Users

1 reports · First detected 2026-07-23 · Last active 2026-07-23

Google introduced the Gemini model family in December 2023 and has since embedded generative AI across Search, Android and Workspace while expanding its standalone assistant. The push matters because Google’s global distribution gives it a powerful route to scale in the consumer AI race. Crossing 1 billion monthly active users would place Gemini alongside the company’s biggest products and strengthen its challenge to OpenAI’s ChatGPT as consumers increasingly choose assistants based on model quality, integrations and agentic features.

Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said during the company’s second-quarter earnings call on July 22, 2026, that the Gemini app had reached 950 million monthly active users. Daily active users tripled over the past year, while monthly users rose from more than 750 million reported in February. Google credited features including Daily Brief and the personalized Gemini Spark agent. Sensor Tower data for May put Gemini’s AI-assistant market share at 27.7%, versus 46.4% for ChatGPT.
