Nvidia RTX 50 Prices Surge in Taiwan, Premiums Hit 122%

Nvidia introduced its Blackwell-based GeForce RTX 50 lineup in 2025, targeting gamers and creators who use features such as DLSS 4, ray tracing and CUDA-accelerated software. The RTX 5070 and RTX 5060 debuted with suggested prices of $549 and $299, respectively. Rising graphics-card costs matter because the GPU is typically one of the largest expenses in a do-it-yourself PC, while Nvidia’s software ecosystem makes switching hardware vendors difficult for some users.

As of Aug. 11, 2026, a Tom’s Hardware review of U.S. listings on Newegg found price increases of more than 39% for some midrange RTX 50 cards. The median listed price for the RTX 5070 had climbed 36%, while the RTX 5060 was up 27%. Higher costs for GDDR7 memory and other components are filtering through board partners and retailers, adding pressure to upgrade budgets for gamers, streamers and professional creators.

NVIDIA set the GeForce RTX 5090’s official suggested retail price at $1,999, while the RTX 5080 Founders Edition debuted at $999. Premium partner cards routinely command more for factory overclocking, elaborate cooling and brand positioning. Still, an RTX 5080 selling above the flagship’s reference price marks an unusual inversion of the product hierarchy and underscores how retail pricing for high-end GPUs can diverge sharply from manufacturers’ launch benchmarks.

As of July 31, 2026, Best Buy had raised the ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5080 OC to $2,099 from its $1,499 launch price, a 40% increase. The new price is $100 above the RTX 5090’s $1,999 MSRP and more than double the RTX 5080 Founders Edition’s suggested price. It is the first RTX 5080 listed by the US retailer above the RTX 5090 benchmark and remains Best Buy’s only 5080 model at that level.
