ASE’s Tien Wu Says AI Puts Taiwan Chips at a Critical Turning Point
Artificial intelligence is driving demand across advanced chips, packaging and data-center infrastructure, turning semiconductor competition into a broader contest spanning design, manufacturing, testing and systems integration. Taiwan’s dense technology supply chain gives it a central role in that shift, but geopolitical tensions and constraints on power, talent and other resources are raising the stakes for an industry that underpins global AI development.
Tien Wu, chief operating officer of ASE Technology Holding Co., said recently that AI has brought Taiwan’s semiconductor industry to a pivotal period of cross-sector innovation and what he described as a golden transformation. He called for companies to safeguard production capacity in the near term while accelerating investment in AI infrastructure over the medium and long term, positioning Taiwan’s chip ecosystem as a durable foundation for global AI innovation.
