Scape Raises $3.2 Million to Challenge Gmail With AI Agents
Email remains one of the most entrenched workplace interfaces, with Google’s Gmail benefiting from scale and high switching costs while rivals have largely competed on speed, design or assisted writing. Stockholm-based Scape, founded in 2024, is taking a more ambitious approach: a desktop inbox built around AI agents that use context from past messages, calendars and meeting records to act before users open an email. The strategy shifts competition from drafting assistance toward completing work inside the inbox.
On July 24, 2026, Scape said it had raised $3.2 million in seed funding from Y Combinator, General Catalyst and FundersClub, alongside angel investors from OpenAI, Google, Meta, Ramp, Legora and Lovable. The five-person company’s software can prepare replies, schedule meetings, generate or edit attachments and handle form-filling tasks. Scape has opened an early-access waitlist as it emerges from stealth and targets Gmail users, but has not disclosed user numbers, subscription pricing or the valuation attached to the round.
