Intel Plans Late-2026 Crescent Island AI Chip to Challenge Low-Cost Inference Market

AI inference is the critical stage in which businesses deploy trained models for search, customer service and generative AI applications. The market is currently dominated by competition between NVIDIA and AMD data-center chips. Intel is targeting low- to mid-range computing needs with lower costs and power consumption, while reducing reliance on high-bandwidth memory (HBM), which is more expensive and in tight supply.

Intel plans to launch a data-center graphics chip code-named Crescent Island in late 2026, targeting AI inference workloads. The new chip will use LPDDR5X memory and support air-cooled deployments, lowering businesses' hardware, power and cooling costs. Intel also says it will price the chip below comparable AI products from NVIDIA and AMD, but has yet to disclose an exact price.
