Middle-Market CFOs Adopt Digital Working Capital Tools to Strengthen Balance Sheets

2 reports · First detected 2026-03-04 · Last active 2026-03-12

Middle-market companies with annual revenue of $50 million to $1 billion often sit at the heart of global supply chains but are not always adequately served by traditional financial institutions. Faced with tight financing conditions and fluctuations in supply and demand, CFOs are turning external digital working capital tools from a fallback for short-term shortfalls into a strategic resource for funding investment, accelerating supplier payments and strengthening balance-sheet resilience.

A Visa-commissioned report by PYMNTS Intelligence, published on March 4, 2026, surveyed 1,457 CFOs and finance executives across 10 industries in 23 countries from May 23 to July 18, 2025. Companies using such solutions generated an average of $19 million in benefits. A follow-up analysis on March 12 found that AI and real-time data are moving cash forecasting beyond monthly meetings and toward continuous updates.
