US Senator Seeks Bitmain Security Probe Over Miner Purchase by Trump Sons-Linked Company

2 reports · First detected 2026-03-28 · Last active 2026-03-28

Beijing-linked Bitmain is the world’s largest cryptocurrency mining-rig maker and controls about 90% of the Bitcoin mining-machine market, according to U.S. Senate materials. The Senate Intelligence Committee warned in July 2025 that its equipment could be remotely controlled by China to collect intelligence or disrupt the power grid. The controversy also involves Trump family investments, putting a spotlight on whether political interests have influenced the national security review.

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren wrote to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on March 26, 2026, demanding details by April 9 on investigations and enforcement involving Bitmain and Sophgo. American Bitcoin, co-founded by Eric Trump and backed by investor Donald Trump Jr., pledged 2,234 bitcoin and spent $314 million to purchase 16,299 mining rigs.
