U.S. Crypto Bank Anchorage Digital Boosts Holdings of Bitcoin Holder Strategy’s Preferred Stock
Anchorage Digital Bank received a national trust bank charter from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in January 2021, becoming the country’s first federally chartered crypto bank. Michael Saylor-led Strategy has continued to finance additional Bitcoin purchases. Its STRC preferred stock has no maturity date and ranks ahead of MSTR common stock in liquidation, giving institutions indirect exposure to Bitcoin-related risk through a U.S. dollar-denominated yield instrument.
Anchorage Digital disclosed on February 25, 2026, that it had added STRC, launched by Strategy in July 2025, to its balance sheet. It did not disclose the number of shares purchased or the amount invested. STRC had a par value of $100 and an annualized dividend rate of 11.25% at the time, with cash payments made monthly and the rate adjusted each month. Strategy held 717,722 Bitcoin worth about $46.64 billion.

The history behind this eventAnchorage Digital CEO Calls for Broader Crypto Banking Market and Offers Core Technology
Anchorage Digital is a digital asset platform connecting crypto assets with the traditional financial system. CEO Nathan McCauley says crypto banking should not be dominated by a small number of providers. Widespread adoption of custody, settlement and other services by commercial banks would broaden institutional access to the crypto market and expand its scale.
McCauley recently said he wants all roughly 4,000 U.S. commercial banks to become crypto banks, which would leave Anchorage Digital with 3,999 peers. The company plans to provide the backend infrastructure, but reports did not disclose a specific launch date, participating banks, investment amount or implementation timetable.
Anchorage Digital Adds STRC to Balance Sheet, Backing Michael Saylor’s Bitcoin Treasury Strategy
Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, raises money through stock and bond offerings to buy Bitcoin, making MSTR a leveraged proxy for the cryptocurrency. Its Nasdaq-listed perpetual preferred security, STRC, carries an annual dividend rate of 11.25% and pays monthly cash dividends, with proceeds also used to acquire more Bitcoin. Anchorage Digital has long provided trading and custody services.
Anchorage Digital said on February 25, 2026, that it had added STRC to its own balance sheet, without disclosing the purchase amount or exact acquisition date. Goldman Sachs data showed that Strategy had become the most shorted U.S. large-cap stock. The company separately spent $39.8 million on February 23 to buy 592 Bitcoin, lifting its total holdings to 717,722 Bitcoin, worth about $46.68 billion.
