Agentic Payment Systems Must Link Records Before Ledger Entry

Agentic Payments allow AI agents to initiate, authorize and execute transactions across merchants, payment providers and financial institutions. That autonomy creates a data-governance challenge: records generated by separate systems must remain traceable as one transaction. Without a consistent Join Key, entries can become difficult to reconcile after reaching the Ledger, raising the risk of mismatches, duplicate postings and incomplete audit trails.

The report, “Build the Join Key Before the Ledger,” recommends generating and binding the Join Key before any transaction record is posted to the accounting Ledger. The identifier should connect payment instructions, authorization, clearing and final booking data, enabling precise reconciliation and end-to-end auditability.
