New Nonprofit Launches to Accelerate Institutional Ethereum Adoption
Ethereum is key infrastructure for stablecoins and real-world asset tokenization, but banks and asset managers have lacked a neutral point of contact representing the broader ecosystem rather than a single vendor. Building on a year of institutional outreach by the Ethereum Foundation, Ethereum Institutional will help firms evaluate Ethereum, L2 networks and onchain settlement applications.
Ethereum Institutional formally launched on July 1, 2026, with BitMine Immersion Technologies, SharpLink and Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin as its main financial backers. Funding amounts were not disclosed. The organization has developed relationships with more than 500 institutions and convened more than 150 senior financial executives whose firms collectively manage about $250 trillion in assets.

Its launch comes as the Ethereum Foundation restructures after recently cutting about 20% of its workforce, or 54 people, and reducing its annual budget by 40%. The nonprofit will introduce Wall Street banks and asset managers to the crypto ecosystem through education on staking and Layer 2 networks.
