Bristol Myers Buys Nvidia Vera Rubin System for Drug Discovery
Drugmakers are pouring money into artificial intelligence infrastructure to identify targets faster, screen more compounds and improve the odds that experimental medicines reach patients. Bristol Myers Squibb has operated an Nvidia DGX SuperPOD for nearly three years and now uses AI across all small-molecule and most large-molecule programs. The latest purchase moves advanced computing deeper into pharmaceutical research, supporting proprietary models for protein and compound prediction across oncology, hematology, cardiovascular disease, immunology and neuroscience.
On July 20, 2026, Bristol Myers said it would deploy a second DGX SuperPOD built from eight Nvidia DGX Vera Rubin NVL72 systems, making it the first life-sciences company to buy a platform based on the chipmaker’s newest architecture. Financial terms were not disclosed. Vera Rubin can deliver as much as 10 times more performance per megawatt than its predecessor. BMS said AI already cuts the time needed to produce medicines for clinical testing by 20% to 30%; Chief Research Officer Robert Plenge said that reduction could reach 50% in coming years.
