Bitcoin.com Adds UAE-Registered USDU to Self-Custodial Wallet
USDU is issued by Universal Digital Intl Limited, an Abu Dhabi Global Market company regulated by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority. On Jan. 29, 2026, it became the first U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin registered by the Central Bank of the UAE as a Foreign Payment Token under the Payment Token Services Regulation. Backed 1:1 by U.S. dollar reserves, the token is part of the UAE’s effort to build regulated rails for digital-asset settlement.
Bitcoin.com has integrated the Ethereum-based USDU into its self-custodial wallet, allowing users to hold and transfer the token while retaining control of their private keys. Bitcoin.com said it plans to add exchange and merchant-payment functions in later phases. Under the UAE framework, however, USDU is intended for payments tied to virtual assets and virtual-asset derivatives rather than general domestic retail purchases, defining the initial scope of the wallet rollout.
