NVIDIA Unveils Hot-Water Cooling for AI Servers to Slash Power and Water Use
As AI server power consumption rises, conventional data centers typically use chillers to lower cooling-water temperatures, consuming electricity and potentially increasing water use. NVIDIA has raised the operating temperature of its coolant to 45 degrees Celsius, allowing the cooling process to bypass chillers and easing the energy and water burden of high-density AI computing infrastructure.
The latest report says NVIDIA’s next-generation AI servers use a “hot-water cooling” design. It can deliver 25 to 30 times greater energy efficiency than conventional cooling systems while reducing data center electricity and water costs. However, available information does not disclose a formal launch date, the locations of initial deployments, equipment pricing or estimated savings. Operational data will be needed to verify the actual benefits.
