Dogecoin's April Fools' Prank Drops Shiba Inu Mascot and Meme Lingo

1 reports · First detected 2026-04-02 · Last active 2026-04-02

Dogecoin has gained prominence since 2013 through its image of Kabosu, the Shiba Inu, and meme expressions such as “Wow.” Its community culture is also a key pillar of its market recognition and cryptocurrency valuation. An official change of mascot and shift toward a corporate identity would therefore affect both the brand's positioning and how supporters identify with it.

Dogecoin's official X account said on April 1 that it would abandon its classic Shiba Inu mascot, adopt a blue badge and embrace a corporate model. It even claimed that “Wow” would be banned to prevent the word from being construed as financial advice. The announcement was later confirmed as an April Fools' prank. Litecoin and Binance founder Changpeng Zhao posted related jokes the same day.
