Samsung Reportedly Weighs U.S. ADR Issue, Eyeing SK Hynix Playbook

2 reports · First detected 2026-07-15 · Last active 2026-07-15

South Korean semiconductor giant SK Hynix formally listed American depositary receipts on Nasdaq on July 10, 2026, raising a record $26.5 billion to expand production capacity for AI high-bandwidth memory, or HBM. The move not only helped it overcome valuation constraints associated with the “Korea discount” but also prompted intense market discussion and scrutiny over whether major companies such as Samsung Electronics might follow suit and use an overseas listing to raise capital more efficiently.

Samsung Electronics issued an official statement on July 15, 2026, denying that it had near-term plans to issue ADRs in the United States. Industry sources, however, said Samsung had already launched an internal feasibility study and had even sent personnel to consult SK Hynix about the issuance process. Experts believe Samsung is highly likely to replicate SK Hynix's pattern of “deny first, announce later,” quietly preparing an overseas fundraising plan to meet the enormous capital needs of advanced semiconductor manufacturing and AI chip development.
