Sakana AI Launches Fugu Models to Orchestrate Multiple AI Agents
Japan-based Sakana AI has introduced Fugu, a foundation model designed to coordinate multiple specialized AI agents through a single API. The system dynamically selects and combines models for tasks including software engineering and scientific reasoning, offering enterprises an alternative to relying on one frontier-model provider and its technology stack.
As of Aug. 5, 2026, Fugu and the higher-end Fugu Ultra are available through subscriptions and usage-based enterprise plans. Sakana AI says the models have delivered competitive results across software-engineering and scientific-reasoning benchmarks. The company has not disclosed specific prices in the supplied launch details, and the service is currently unavailable in the European Union.

That compared with 85.6% for OpenAI’s GPT-5.5-Cyber on CyberGym and 68.5% for Anthropic’s Mythos-Preview on CTI-REALM, according to the company’s figures, which have not been independently reproduced. Access requires an approved application and pay-as-you-go billing; standard pricing is $6 per million input tokens and $36 per million output tokens.
