FBI Seizes $560,000 in Crypto Destined for Hamas

2 reports · First detected 2026-09-03 · Last active 2026-09-03

Hamas has used websites and encrypted communications to solicit cryptocurrency for its military wing, the Al Qassam Brigades, since around 2019, according to U.S. court filings. The fundraising strategy sought to move money outside the traditional financial system and obscure donors’ identities. Washington designates Hamas a foreign terrorist organization, making the tracing and seizure of its digital assets a central part of U.S. efforts to disrupt its financing and recruitment networks.

The Justice Department said on Sept. 1, 2026, that investigators seized more than $560,000 under warrants issued on March 25, June 25 and Oct. 10, 2025. The traced assets included Tether’s USDT and funds linked to Binance accounts. The FBI also took control of domains and servers associated with AlQassam.ps, allowing agents to intercept donations and collect information on thousands of people who contacted Hamas about contributing cryptocurrency or funds through traditional channels.
