IBM Partners With OpenAI to Scale Enterprise AI
Enterprise adoption of generative AI is increasingly constrained less by model capability than by integration, governance and workflow redesign. OpenAI launched its Partner Network on June 14, 2026, committing $150 million and targeting 300,000 certified consultants by year-end. IBM brings a large consulting workforce, hybrid-cloud expertise and its watsonx portfolio, giving the alliance a broad channel for moving OpenAI tools from pilots into regulated, large-scale production environments.
IBM and OpenAI announced the strategic partnership on August 13, 2026. IBM Consulting will establish a dedicated practice, train tens of thousands of consultants and bring GPT-5.6, Codex and ChatGPT Work into services for corporate customers. The companies plan joint, industry-specific offerings for financial services, government, telecommunications and retail, spanning enterprise workflows, application modernization, cybersecurity and AI risk management. Financial terms were not disclosed, while IBM will join the Elite tier of the OpenAI Partner Network.
