SBI and Sony Back Startale's Expansion of Japan's Tokenized Finance Stack
Startale Group and Sony Group jointly developed Soneium, an Ethereum Layer 2 network launched in January 2025. Startale is also working with SBI Group on tokenized securities blockchain Strium and yen stablecoin JPYSC. Spanning institutional trading, settlement and consumer access, the businesses represent a major push to build Japan's onchain financial infrastructure.
Startale completed a $63 million Series A funding round on March 26, 2026. SBI Group invested $50 million, while Sony Innovation Fund contributed $13 million on January 29. The funding will support the expansion of Strium, JPYSC and Startale App, as well as services on Soneium.
