GSK, Relation Strike $108 Million AI Drug Discovery Deal

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-03 · Last active 2026-08-03

AI-assisted drug discovery increasingly hinges on the quality of biological data used to train models, not just advances in algorithms. London-based Relation Therapeutics combines human genetics, single-cell multi-omics from patient tissue, functional assays and machine learning through its Lab-in-the-Loop platform. The approach is designed to identify and validate causal disease targets before clinical testing, potentially reducing costly failures later in development.

Relation and GSK announced two strategic collaborations on Dec. 10, 2024, targeting fibrotic diseases and osteoarthritis. GSK will pay $45 million upfront, including a $15 million equity investment, while Relation may receive as much as $63 million in success-based collaboration payments, bringing the total to $108 million. The biotech is also eligible for milestone payments averaging $200 million per target and tiered royalties; GSK will hold worldwide development and commercialization rights.
