Google Chooses Seoul for Its First AI Campus Worldwide

DeepMind’s collaboration with South Korea dates to 2016, when AlphaGo defeated Go player Lee Sedol 4–1 in Seoul. Google is now establishing its first AI campus worldwide at its Seoul office, connecting South Korea’s semiconductor industry, academic institutions and startups. The campus will give local researchers access to frontier models such as AlphaFold, strengthening the country’s position as a hub for AI science and industry.

South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT and Google DeepMind signed a memorandum of understanding on April 27, 2026, with the campus scheduled to open by year-end. The agreement did not disclose an investment amount. CEO Demis Hassabis also discussed partnerships with companies including Samsung Electronics and SK hynix. South Korea requested that Google assign at least 10 engineers to the campus, while the parties will also promote internships and AI talent development.
