U.S. Lender CBW Bank Seeks National Charter to Expand Digital Asset and Fintech Business

1 reports · First detected 2026-07-03 · Last active 2026-07-03

CBW Bank, a Kansas-based community lender, has previously partnered with a number of fintech and cryptocurrency companies. Its bid to convert from a state banking charter to a national bank charter would place it under the supervision of the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), providing a regulatory foundation for expanding digital asset and decentralized finance services across state lines.

CBW Bank has submitted its charter conversion application to the OCC, and the case remains under review. The regulator has not disclosed the application date, approval timetable or any amount involved, and is not seeking public comment. If approved, the bank could further develop its fintech, digital asset and decentralized finance businesses under the national banking framework. No final decision had been made as of July 20, 2026.
