Wealthsimple Taps Plus500 to Offer US Futures in Canada

1 reports · First detected 2026-07-29 · Last active 2026-07-29

Wealthsimple, one of Canada’s largest fintech platforms with more than 4 million clients, has been broadening its self-directed investing business beyond stocks and exchange-traded funds into options and advanced trading tools. Futures offer leveraged exposure to markets such as equity indexes, gold and oil, making the product a significant expansion for Wealthsimple but one that can expose retail traders to losses exceeding their initial margin.

Wealthsimple and global multi-asset trading platform Plus500 announced a strategic partnership on July 28, 2026, giving Canadian clients access to U.S. futures contracts through infrastructure powered by Plus500. Wealthsimple had unveiled the futures initiative on May 1, when it said the product was in beta and would become broadly available during the summer. Trading costs US$1 per contract, with no platform or real-time market-data fee, although exchange and regulatory charges still apply.
