AMD to Invest Up to $5 Billion in Anthropic AI Chip Deal

The arrangement combines a sizable capital commitment with a major chip deployment, giving Anthropic additional capacity while providing AMD with a prominent customer for its forthcoming accelerator platform.

If Anthropic, the developer of the Claude models, adopts the MI450, it would signal that major AI companies are diversifying suppliers to reduce costs, delivery times and reliance on a single supply chain.
Market reports on April 19, 2026, said AMD could secure an Anthropic order to supply AI computing capacity using its next-generation Instinct MI450. Neither company has made a formal announcement, and the volume and value of any procurement have not been disclosed. The MI450 is scheduled to begin shipping in the second half of 2026. AMD has also signed separate multiyear GPU deployment agreements of up to 6 GW each with OpenAI and Meta.
