Samsung, SK Hynix Accelerate AI Push in Chipmaking Equipment

As semiconductor processes become more complex, chipmakers are turning to artificial intelligence to improve throughput, stabilize yields and respond faster to equipment anomalies. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are deploying AI agent systems in manufacturing tools, seeking to automate equipment analysis and parameter adjustments while reducing reliance on human intervention across increasingly demanding production lines.

Both South Korean memory-chip makers have begun on-site validation of AI-enabled equipment. SK Hynix has added AI validation results to its key performance indicators and is targeting autonomous fab operations by 2030. Samsung Electronics, meanwhile, is requiring AI capabilities to be included as a standard feature in newly ordered semiconductor equipment, signaling a broader shift in procurement and factory automation strategies.
