Chinese Memory Giants Accelerate DDR5 Development to Target AI and Global Markets

2 reports · First detected 2026-05-18 · Last active 2026-06-08

Demand for DDR5 memory is rising as AI servers and high-performance computing expand, while tight global supplies are creating an opening for Chinese manufacturers. ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) is accelerating technology upgrades and capacity planning as it seeks to narrow the gap with Samsung Electronics, Micron and SK hynix and increase China's influence in the global DRAM supply chain.

As of July 2026, reports said DDR5 products from Chinese memory manufacturers were approaching the performance levels of the three leading international suppliers. However, CXMT has yet to demonstrate a clear price advantage and is currently relying mainly on production volume and flexible partnerships to gain market share. The reports disclosed no additional investment amount, specific production capacity or mass-production date, and its price competitiveness has yet to be tested by the market.
