XPENG Humanoid Unit Raises Over $900 Million in Record China AI Deal
XPENG is expanding beyond smart electric vehicles into embodied, or “physical,” artificial intelligence through its IRON humanoid robot platform. The initiative combines perception, decision-making and motion-control systems for deployment in factories and other real-world settings. Its financing underscores intensifying competition among Chinese technology companies to develop commercially viable humanoid robots, while giving XPENG additional resources to turn automotive AI and manufacturing expertise into a broader robotics business.
XPENG’s embodied-intelligence business completed a funding round of more than $900 million in August 2026, valuing the operation at $6.3 billion. The deal, led by IDG Capital with participation from Tencent, Alibaba and other investors, was described as the largest single private financing round in China’s embodied-AI sector. Proceeds will support continued development of the IRON platform, preparations for mass production and the rollout of commercial applications.
