Tencent Launches AI Skills Platform SkillHub, Sparking OpenClaw Data-Scraping Rights Dispute

Tencent launched AI skills platform SkillHub and synchronized a large number of skill packages from ClawHub, OpenClaw’s official marketplace, giving developers a centralized source for tools used by AI agents. The dispute raises questions about the limits of reusing open-source content, source attribution and the platform costs of data scraping. It also highlights the imbalance of interests between major technology companies and the original communities behind such content.

OpenClaw founder Peter Steinberger recently accused Tencent of copying ClawHub content without prior consultation and said the scraping consumed his server resources. Tencent said SkillHub was designed as a mirror site and that its pages identified the data source. It added that caching and synchronization mechanisms had reduced the upstream bandwidth burden by 99.4%, but did not disclose the volume of traffic or the amounts involved.
