OpenAI Signs Getty Images Licensing Deal for ChatGPT Search
Getty Images is one of the world’s leading commercial image and video licensing platforms. The rise of generative AI has put traditional stock-media libraries under pressure from potential substitution while prompting them to challenge the unauthorized use of their content for AI training. The OpenAI partnership creates a new commercial avenue by bringing licensed content directly into AI search, supporting creators’ rights and generating licensing revenue for the platform.
Getty Images announced on June 21, 2026, that it had signed a multiyear display agreement with OpenAI, allowing its licensed library to be used in ChatGPT’s search and discovery experiences. Financial terms were not disclosed. The stock surged nearly 300% in premarket trading on June 22 and rose as much as 145% during the session before closing up 90% at $1.15.
