Wyoming Drops LayerZero for Chainlink in State Stablecoin Security Shift
The Wyoming Stable Token Commission created Frontier Stable Token, or FRNT, under the Wyoming Stable Token Act as a fully reserved digital dollar backed by cash and short-dated U.S. Treasuries. FRNT completed its mainnet deployment on Aug. 18, 2025, and became publicly available on Jan. 7, 2026. As the first stablecoin issued by a U.S. state, its infrastructure choices carry broader significance for governments weighing blockchain-based payments and settlement.
Wyoming said on Aug. 19, 2026, that it would move FRNT’s cross-chain infrastructure from LayerZero to Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol following a security review. The decision marks the first publicly disclosed case of a U.S. government entity replacing core blockchain infrastructure on security grounds. It also joins a wider migration approaching $15 billion in assets after the LayerZero-powered KelpDAO bridge suffered an approximately $292 million exploit earlier in 2026.
