NEC and Anthropic Forge Global Strategic Partnership to Advance Enterprise AI in Japan
As Japanese companies adopt generative AI, the financial, manufacturing and government sectors are placing particular emphasis on data governance, cybersecurity and regulatory compliance. NEC is pairing the systems-integration expertise behind its BluStellar business-transformation brand with Anthropic’s focus on safety, aiming to move Claude beyond model trials and into mission-critical operations.
NEC announced on April 23, 2026, that it had become Anthropic’s first Japanese corporate global partner. Financial terms were not disclosed. The companies will use Claude Cowork to develop solutions for financial institutions, manufacturers and local governments, while integrating Claude Opus 4.7 and Claude Code into BluStellar. NEC will also roll out the technology to about 30,000 employees worldwide, establish a Center of Excellence and validate AI-agent applications through a “Client Zero” approach.
