AI Investment Boom Set to Push Japan’s Robot Orders Above ¥1 Trillion to Record High
Japan’s industrial robot sector has long relied on demand from automotive and electronics manufacturers. Expanding global investment in data centers, semiconductors and AI, coupled with labor shortages driving automation demand, is now fueling a new wave of equipment purchases. The Japan Robot Association’s forecast has therefore become an important gauge of manufacturing capital spending and the spillover effects of the AI boom.
The Japan Robot Association has raised its forecast for industrial robot orders in 2026 to ¥1.22 trillion. That would mark the first time in four years that orders have exceeded ¥1 trillion, following 2022. If achieved, the total would surpass the previous record set in 2022 and reach the highest level since JARA began compiling the data, reflecting simultaneous growth in AI investment and global automation demand.
