NVIDIA’s Rubin AI Platform Set to Use More LPDDR Than Apple and Samsung Combined
NVIDIA’s Rubin AI platform targets next-generation high-performance computing and will make extensive use of LPDDR memory, which has traditionally been common in smartphones. Apple and Samsung have long been the leading buyers, so AI servers consuming more than their combined volume would reshape global memory capacity allocation and affect smartphone costs and supplies.
The latest estimate suggests that the Rubin platform alone will consume more LPDDR in 2027 than Apple and Samsung smartphones combined. SK hynix and Micron have expanded capacity in response to AI memory demand. NVIDIA’s chief financial officer also said the company had moved early to mitigate supply risks, though smartphone makers could still face component shortages and price pressures.
