Nvidia’s Huang and Trump Reject Calls to Slow AI
The AI industry is dividing over whether frontier-model development should slow to give safety measures time to catch up. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei intensified the debate on Sept. 12 with a 3,800-word essay warning that, within six to 12 months, swarms of AI agents could potentially seize control of the internet and cause hundreds of billions of dollars in damage. On Sept. 14, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang took a call from US President Donald Trump while appearing at the All-In Summit in Los Angeles and put the president on speakerphone. Trump dismissed fears surrounding AI and data centers as a hoax, saying robots would not take over the world. Huang echoed Trump’s opposition to a slowdown and said Nvidia would work to ensure every US industry, company and state benefits from the AI race, underscoring his split with Amodei and other technology executives.
