UBS Boosts IBIT Call Exposure More Than 24-Fold
U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs began trading on Jan. 11, 2024, giving banks and asset managers a regulated, exchange-traded route to bitcoin price exposure without holding the token directly. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF, or IBIT, has become a key institutional vehicle. UBS Group AG’s expanding disclosure matters as a signal of deeper Wall Street participation, although Form 13F positions may reflect client facilitation, market-making or hedging rather than a proprietary bullish bet.
In a Form 13F filed on Aug. 13, 2026, covering holdings as of June 30, UBS disclosed IBIT call options representing 1.95 million underlying shares, up from 80,000 at March 31 — a more than 24-fold increase. The filing assigned the calls an underlying-equivalent value of about $64.9 million, not the premium paid. UBS also lifted its direct IBIT stake by about 12% to roughly 408,000 shares, worth around $13.6 million at quarter-end. The filing did not specify the strategy behind the options.
