Portuguese Farm Turns Bitcoin Mining Waste Heat Into Organic Produce and Crypto Revenue
Grover, an organic farm on Portugal’s Madeira island, faces high humidity and heating needs in its greenhouses. The farm channels waste heat from Bitcoin mining rigs into the greenhouses, allowing it to grow herbs reliably without pesticides while using heat that would otherwise be vented to support both agricultural production and crypto-asset income.
Grover has recently begun using mining waste heat to warm its greenhouses and reduce humidity, and plans to expand its solar capacity with the goal of mining entirely with renewable energy. The farm follows a “mine, don’t sell” strategy, recording the Bitcoin it produces as an inventory asset to diversify against the risk of fiat currency depreciation. Available information does not disclose the number of mining rigs, investment amount, Bitcoin output or exact launch date.
