Google Releases Android Studio Panda 3 With Stronger AI Agent Controls and Permission Management

1 reports · First detected 2026-04-07 · Last active 2026-04-07

Google continues to integrate generative AI deeply into its official Android development environment. Following Panda 2, released in March 2026 with a focus on AI prototyping, Panda 3 further addresses workflow consistency and security risks arising from autonomous agent execution. These safeguards are crucial to whether companies can confidently allow AI to operate on their code and development tools.

Google released the stable version of Android Studio Panda 3 (2025.3.3) on April 2, 2026. Developers can create a .skills directory and SKILL.md file within a project to define Agent Skills. The update also introduces granular permissions for files, networks, Shell commands and MCP, along with Always Allow rules and an optional sandbox. Sensitive files still require approval each time.
