1 reports · First detected 2026-03-11 · Last active 2026-03-11

AMK, a subsidiary of Shanghai Commercial & Savings Bank, has built its presence in Cambodia through microfinance services for individuals and small and medium-sized businesses. Its conversion into a commercial bank allows it to expand beyond microcredit into a full range of financial services, including deposits, payments and remittances. The move is also an important part of its parent company’s strategy to deepen its presence in Southeast Asia.

AMK has received approval from Cambodian regulators to convert into a commercial bank and has been renamed AMK BANK PLC. Reports did not disclose the approval date, capitalization or other figures. Following the conversion, it will prioritize mobile banking, digital payments and cross-border remittance services, drawing on Shanghai Commercial & Savings Bank group resources to improve the digital finance experience for local customers.
