Generalist Hits $3 Billion Valuation After Funding Extension
Founded in 2024 by former Google DeepMind researchers Pete Florence and Andy Zeng and former Boston Dynamics engineer Andrew Barry, Generalist is developing an AI foundation model designed to work across multiple types of robots. The company’s rise reflects investor bets that a general-purpose “robot brain” could become a core layer of physical AI, even as collecting real-world training data remains harder than training internet-scale language models.
Generalist has raised nearly $200 million in an extension led by 8VC, valuing the startup at $3 billion, TechCrunch reported on Aug. 25, 2026, citing two people familiar with the financing and a regulatory filing. The capital extends a $400 million Series B led by Radical Ventures and announced in June at a $2 billion valuation, bringing the round to $600 million. Generalist and 8VC did not respond to requests for comment.

The history behind this eventGeneral Intuition Seeks Funding at $6 Billion Valuation for AI Robotics Push
New York-based General Intuition develops foundation models designed to help general-purpose AI agents navigate space and time in physical environments. The technology sits at the intersection of generative AI and robotics, where developers are seeking to move machines beyond narrowly programmed tasks toward systems capable of adapting their behavior across unfamiliar settings.
As of Aug. 25, 2026, General Intuition was in talks to raise a new funding round at a $6 billion valuation, though the amount of capital sought had not been disclosed. The startup has backing from investors including Valor Equity Partners and Point72 Ventures and plans to use additional financing to accelerate its expansion into robotics and other physical AI applications.
