Xiaomi Steps Up AI and Chip Investment to Power Humanoid Robots
Xiaomi is positioning chips, AI, HyperOS and storage technology as core capabilities for its next phase of growth. It aims to run its proprietary large models on devices including smartphones, electric vehicles, smart-home products and humanoid robots. Humanoid robots must process multimodal data in real time, placing greater demands on computing power, low-latency storage and system integration. The investment will therefore also shape Xiaomi's ability to connect its human-car-home ecosystem.
A March 8, 2026, report cited Xiaomi Chairman Lei Jun as saying during China's Two Sessions that the company would invest 200 billion yuan in research and development over the next five years, nearly double the cumulative 105 billion yuan spent over the previous five years. Chips, AI and operating systems will be key priorities. Xiaomi's electric-vehicle factory has begun trials of humanoid robots, and the company plans to integrate its proprietary chips, operating system and large AI model into a single device in 2026.
