OnePay, Upgrade Launch In-App Personal Loans
OnePay, the consumer fintech backed by Walmart and Ribbit Capital, has been expanding beyond payments and deposit products into a broader financial-services app. Its legacy OnePay Loans stopped financing new Walmart purchases on May 12, 2025, while installment lending at the retailer shifted to Klarna. The Upgrade partnership is significant because it adds general-purpose consumer credit that is not tied to a Walmart checkout, giving OnePay another way to address borrowing demand and deepen engagement with its U.S. customer base.
As of July 20, 2026, OnePay is offering personal loans through a new program with Upgrade. Eligible customers can apply in the OnePay app for $1,000 to $50,000 to consolidate high-interest debt, fund a major purchase or cover emergency expenses. The loans are originated by Cross River Bank and offered and serviced by Upgrade, a fintech rather than a bank. Applications remain subject to review and approval; customers with a OnePay deposit account may receive approved funds as soon as the same day.
