Ukraine Transfers More Than $8 Million in Seized Crypto to State Management in First Such Case
Ukraine has widely used cryptocurrency for fundraising and payments, but lacked mature state procedures for holding and disposing of digital assets seized in criminal cases. The Asset Recovery and Management Agency's first direct takeover of crypto assets tied to a case marks the formal rollout of mechanisms covering court seizures, wallet transfers and subsequent management. It also provides a practical precedent for the country's proposed strategic crypto reserve.
Ukraine's State Bureau of Investigation said on June 29, 2026, that it had worked with the National Police's Internal Security Department and U.S. law enforcement agencies to transfer more than 8.3 million USDT from the wallet of a member of a transnational hacking group to an ARMA wallet. The tokens were worth more than 372 million hryvnias, or about $8.3 million, at the time. Authorities also seized homes, vehicles and about $1 million in cash in the same case, bringing the total value of seized assets to more than $11.1 million.
