Four Taiwan Financial Groups Reportedly Eye Crypto Exchange Acquisitions, With MaiCoin and HOYA BIT in Focus
Taiwan is expected to advance its Virtual Asset Service Act in 2026. As the financial sector prepares for licensing, capital and compliance requirements, firms have begun assessing acquisitions of existing virtual asset service providers as a route into on-chain finance. MaiCoin, HOYA BIT and BitoPro have reportedly drawn interest, while Fubon and Union Bank of Taiwan have already moved to establish a foothold in related businesses.
Four Taiwanese financial holding companies have recently been reported to be evaluating acquisitions of cryptocurrency exchanges, although the institutions involved have yet to formally disclose any targets or timelines. Market estimates put MaiCoin Group's valuation at more than NT$10 billion, while emerging platform HOYA BIT has become a potential acquisition target because its systems and technology architecture offer greater flexibility for modification.
